Natsunokumo chapter 20

The fight between the mercenaries and the people of the Zoo is coming to a close with the match between Mitsuki and Gaur. The two seem to have some history, but as eager as Gaur is to settle the score, she seems to lose much of her bravado as the superiority of her opponent is made clear to her. Yet, as the people of the Zoo watch helplessly from the sidelines, Gaur might still have a trick up her sleeve to help her even out the odds.

This marks the end of the "Group Encounter" arc and start of the fifth volume— and we're finally past the halfway point of the series! Thanks for the translation to mako, without whom we wouldn't have ever gotten so far!

It's the summer of the spider (Natsunokumo chp 19)

It's been a long time coming, but here it is— chapter 19 of Rokuro Shinofusa's "Natsunokumo", bringing the volume 4 to a close. It's finally time for Gaur to step into the ring and square off with the merc that harassed her friend, but it seems she'll have to face a different opponent— a far more troublesome one.

As this chapter rounds up the fourth volume, here's the collected archive for your convenience.

This would not have been possible without mako's help— a round of applause to the man! He did a wonderful job on the translation and totally deserves it!
We're both planning on continuing with the series, but it'll take some time. Still, slow and steady and all that jazz.

See ya!

Summer's over

Bad news, everyone.

It doesn't look like I'll ever manage to get the rest of Natsunokumo translated.

I searched for an available translator, but haven't managed to find a suitable one so far.

I tried to ask other groups to pick this project up, but predictably no one showed much interest.

I tried to commission the translation of chapter 19, at least to finish up the fourth volume, and to have a precise idea of how much it would cost, but the translators (plural, both saha and desudesu) didn't even answer my request for a quote ...

So I'm stumped. Any and all suggestions are welcome at this point, but the project is effectively on indefinite hiatus. I'm pretty sad about this.

Natsunokumo chapter 18

I promised I'd get chapter 18 done in August, and I... failed miserably, okay. But it's still the first of September, so close enough!

In this chapter Itaka takes the spotlight, just to show that the Engine man is not the only one that knows how to handle himself in a fight. Crank, instead... well, you'll see.

Also, this is the last chapter for which I had the scripts left by the previous translator. It's gonna be rough from here on out but I hope I'll have some good news on that front shortly.

Until next time!

Natsunokumo chapter 17

Finally! I don't think this qualifies as "weekend" anymore (perhaps it's still Sunday somewhere out there...) but better late than never.
In this chapter we bear witness to the complete awesomeness of pissed-off Gigia, and open hostilities with the mercenary group- but the always crafty Crank will find a way to settle things in a (somewhat) civil way.

Today's wrestling moves come courtesy of Buffalo Man (from the anime/manga Kinnikuman)  http://youtu.be/vR5b6l8uDFU.

Next chapter, the last one for which there were scripts available left from the translator who started the project way back when, it's coming sometime in August. No clue exactly when, 'cause it's more than 32°C here and my brain is starting to melt.

Chapter 17 delayed

I'm sorry to announce that chapter 17 will be coming next week, at the earliest, and not this weekend. I could blame a problem with my desktop as the cause, but really, there was a Guild Wars 2 beta coming, so not much of a chance of me working on it this weekend to begin with.

Still, I present a small gift- an extra spread from Volume 7- as a little tease.
See you next week!

Natsunokumo chapter 16

Here it is, chapter 16 - Group Encounter #2. The bodyguards and the adults of the Zoo meet to plan their countermeasures against the onslaught of curious players that have flooded the board, but trouble's afoot in their own home. Also, GIGIA SMASH!

(This time the download link for the chapter is provided by minus.com thanks to mediafire being a bunch of twats.)

In other news, I may have successfully convinced a translator to help out with the scripts, so there's still hope of seeing the whole manga through. Still, 4 volumes are a lot for a single person, so if there's anyone else available to help, you're more than welcome.

See ya!

Natsunokumo chapter 15

Chapter 15 - Group Encounter #1 is done!

In this chapter, we see the aftermath of the clash with Kabaki, and how Gaur's holding up after the loss of her beloved Grandma. Also, a little more insight into what has happened in the past at the Zoo, and as per usual a look at how people online can be gigantic assholes.

Still no translator in sight, so again, we only have 3 chapters left to go. I'm sounding more and more like a broken record, but I'd really like to see this translated to the end- and avoid commissioning a translator if at all possible. If anyone is willing to step up and take care of the script leave a comment here on the blog, or send an email to secondhandscans@gmail.com.

If a group wants to pick it up the project and release it as their own, feel free to do so.
Chapter 16 will come later in the month, depending if I manage to leave town for a while or not.
See you soon!

Natsunokumo chapter 4.5 - Side Story

Hello again! Today comes the extra chapter from the first volume, a look at how Itaka first came to be a part of the Zoo, with a guest appearance of Sancho and Katsutoshi (the guys with the funny accents from Volume 2).

According to mangaupdates, this chapter war already released by mangascreener way back when, but I couldn't find it online. The script was available, so I re-did it. Way to be efficient!

Next up is chapter 15, first chapter of Volume 4. Still missing a translator for chapters 19 and up, so without some fresh blood, chapter 18 is as far as we gonna get.

For those who are interested, here are repacks for the first three volumes in English. Enjoy!

Natsunokumo chapter 14

First of the new chapters, first actual release here, is chapter 14 - "Afterimage", to close off the third volume.
Next in line is the extra chapter from the first volume, simply titled "Side Story".

As I said previously, the scripts that were left from the previous translator (thus "second hand") only go up to chapter 18- I need someone to translate the rest of the manga. Want to help? Drop a line in the comments. Know someone who would? Convince them. Or tie 'em up in front of their computer and threaten them at gunpoint- whatever works, though it'd be nice to avoid violence :)

Rokuro Shinofusa's "Natsunokumo"

Well, hello there!

I've opened up shop here trying to drum up a bit of interest in this here manga, "Natsunokumo".  To quote the introductory blurb from the group that started translating it back then: "Coil is a man whose idea of "life" is his alter ego in an online world. A place where the hearts of people come together...and it is not a pretty place. The slender spiderweb that connects their souls within this endless world brings greater pain than reality itself."

It doesn't seem to have received much attention in the west- there are no localizations that I know of in English or in any other European language, save for an out of print (and unfinished) French version.
So, I've got my hands on some of the available but unused scripts left by the previous translator (with his permission), and I'm going to package 'em up and release them. Problem is- they only go up to chapter 18, enough to get through volume 3, with one chapter left to end volume 4. This still leaves the last four volumes completely untranslated.

I like this series, and given that there's not really much of a chance to ever see it officially released, the only alternative is a fan translation. I can handle the editing, but I need someone to take care of the script- I need a translator. So, come one and come all, for the fame, the glory and the untold riches pretty much nothing, I guess- this is a fan thing, after all.
Still, anyone interested in giving it a shot, aiming to get some practice with their Japanese, or wanting to gain ~*internet fame*~, feel free to drop a line in the comments.

I'll be posting chapter 14 soon-ish, then there'll be the extra chapter from the first volume, and repacks for the first three volumes in English. Below you can find link to the volumes in Japanese, if you want to take a look at them.
If you want to read what's been translated so far, you can head over to the manga page on Batoto.
